Maruti Alto and S-Presso Are No Longer Available In Single Airbag Variants

  • All the variants of Maruti Alto and S-Presso are now available with driver and co-driver airbags.
  • The Alto now ranges from Rs 4.08 lakh to Rs 5.03 lakh, whereas the S-Presso now costs between Rs 4 lakh to Rs 5.64 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom).

Maruti Suzuki has axed the single airbag variants of the entry-level Alto and S-Presso hatchbacks. That said, the LXI (O) has become the new base-spec variant of the Maruti Alto, whereas the S-Presso’s variant lineup will now start from the STD (O) trim. The brand also took the opportunity to revise the prices of their existing variants by a decent margin. Here’s a look at the updated variants list of both the Maruti cars with their revised prices: –

As the above table indicates, Maruti has discontinued Alto’s STD, STD (O), and LXI trims. Currently, it comes with a 0.8-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine (48PS/69Nm), mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. It also gets an optional factory-fitted CNG powertrain that churns out 41PS and 60Nm. It is claimed to return a fuel efficiency of 22.05kmpl with petrol, and 31.59km/kg when operated on CNG.

Maruti Suzuki S-Presso’s updated variant lineup with prices

Maruti has removed S-Presso’s STD and LXI variants from its lineup. It is powered by a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder, petrol engine (68PS/90Nm), paired with a 5-speed manual and an optional 5-speed AMT. Select trims of the S-Presso are also available with an optional CNG kit (59PS/78Nm) that delivers a mileage of 31.2km/kg. On the other hand, its petrol version offers a fuel economy of 21.4kmpl with manual and 21.7kmpl with AMT unit.

In the other news, the Ministry of Road, Transport, and Highways (MoRTH) has recently approved a draft notification to make 6 airbags mandatory in cars (carrying up to 8 passengers) from October 2022. This will further make all the cars more expensive.
