Mahindra XEV 9e, BE 6 and XUV 3XO Likely To Get Hybrid System

Mahindra is reportedly working on introducing the hybrid versions of the XUV 3XO, XEV 9e and BE 6 SUVs. The move suggests that Mahindra is considering a more flexible powertrain strategy, likely in response to growing consumer interest in hybrid vehicles.

Reports suggest that Mahindra will equip the XEV 9e and BE 6 with a range-extended hybrid system for the XEV 9e and BE 6. Having said that, they will be powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine, which will serve as a generator to recharge the battery pack, which in turn will power the electric motors to propel the vehicles. For those unaware, Maruti is also working on a similar powertrain option for Fronx, Baleno, and Swift.

Speaking of the XUV 3XO, it is expected to be powered by a strong-hybrid powertrain, likely based on a series-parallel hybrid system. This system is anticipated to pair a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor for enhanced efficiency and performance.

With the addition of hybrid powertrains to models like the XUV 3XO, XUV.e9, and BE.06, Mahindra is clearly signalling a strategic shift towards a more flexible and future-ready product portfolio. While the automaker has focused heavily on all-electric models and concepts in recent years, introducing hybrid options reflects a pragmatic approach, addressing current limitations in charging infrastructure and catering to consumers seeking fuel efficiency without range anxiety.

This move also brings Mahindra in line with global trends, where hybrid powertrains are seen as a crucial intermediate step toward full electrification. If successful, Mahindra could expand its hybrid technology to other mass-market and premium models, giving it a broader edge over rivals that are still primarily focused on either ICE or EV offerings.
