Driving home a new Mahindra SUV can be a bit tricky, considering the consistently long waiting period on its popular models. However, if you’re in the market for a new Mahindra Thar and Thar Roxx, you may have to wait up to six months for delivery. In comparison, the waiting period for the 3-door Thar is around 2 months.
- Mahindra has significantly reduced the delivery time for its Thar Roxx lineup, with an average waiting period of 4 to 6 months.
- As of May 2025, the maximum waiting time for any Thar Roxx variant is capped at 6 months, even for the top-end variants — a big drop from March, when some models had a wait of up to 18 months.
- According to the latest data, the MX1 and AX7 L variants still command the longest wait — up to 6 months — along with the MX5 4×4. Other variants, including the MX3 (Petrol AT and Diesel 2WD/AT), AX3 L, and AX5 L, are now available with shorter waiting periods of up to 4 months. This improvement reflects Mahindra’s ongoing efforts to ramp up production in response to high demand for the 5-door Thar Roxx.
- The waiting period for the standard 3-door Mahindra Thar has also seen a marginal reduction. The RWD diesel variant now has the shortest wait, at up to two months, down by about a month compared to March 2025. Other variants, including petrol-RWD, petrol-4WD, and diesel-4WD versions, have a waiting period of just over two months.

Both the Thar Roxx and Thar 3-door are powered by the same 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines, paired with either a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission, depending on the variant. The 3-door version is also available with a smaller 1.5-litre diesel engine and RWD configuration.
Currently, the Thar Roxx is priced between Rs 12.99 lakh and Rs 23.39 lakh (ex-showroom), while its 3-door iteration ranges from Rs 11.50 lakh to Rs 17.62 lakh (ex-showroom).
Increasing Demand For Thar Roxx
The Mahindra Thar range, including the 3-door and newer 5-door Roxx, has surpassed 2.59 lakh units in domestic sales since its launch in October 2020, as per SIAM data. The Roxx, introduced in September 2024, now contributes to 45% of total Thar sales, significantly boosting overall volumes.
