Mahindra Reintroduced Automatic Transmission With XUV500

Mahindra has reintroduced automatic variants with XUV500. Earlier AT variants were discontinued in April 2020 with BS6 upgradation. Like before the XUV500 automatic gets an Aisin-sourced 6-speed torque converter unit. It is available with three variants- W7, W9, and W11(O). The variant-wise pricing is as follows:-

Except for the base-spec W5, all other variants of BS6 XUV500 are available with an automatic gearbox. Compared to the manual counterparts, all AT trims carry a premium of Rs 1.21 lakh (approximately).

2020 Mahindra XUV500 Automatic: Engine

The 6-speed torque converter gearbox is mated to the same motor seen in manual variants. So you get the 2.2-liter mHAWK diesel engine that produces 155PS and an exciting 360Nm of peak torque. Unlike the BS4 version, the BS6 XUV500 still misses an all-wheel drivetrain option.

Is there any change in the features department?

Apart from the installation of an automatic gearbox, all variants retained its features. Equipment of top-spec W11 (O) mainly includes a projector headlamp, DRLs, diamond cut alloys wheels, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 6-way adjustable driver seat, auto climate control, rear AC vents. sunroof, cruise control, etc.

Competition

In terms of pricing, the Mahindra XUV500 locks horns with the Tata Harrier, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Jeep Compass, and MG Hector. Its direct competitor Tata Hexa has yet to be upgraded on BS6 emission norms and Hector Plus with its three-row arrangement can be considered XUV500's straight rival.
