Mahindra eKUV Likely To Be Called e2O, Launch By Year-End

  • The production-spec version of the eKUV100 is likely to revive the e2O nameplate.
  • Specs are yet to be revealed.
  • Likely to offer a range of over 250 km.
  • Launch expected by year-end.

Mahindra eKUV 100 has been under testing for quite some time now and is in the final stage of testing & development. According to the reports, it could be launched by the end of this year. Reports are also suggesting that it might adopt the ‘e2O’ name as the current ICE-powered KUV100 isn’t popular among buyers.

For those who aren’t aware, the e2O was Mahindra’s first electric car (later evolved as e2o Plus), which ran off the assembly line in March 2019 due to low sales and stricter crash test norms. The tiny electric hatch was based on the Reva platform and was claimed to deliver a driving range of up to 140km on a full charge (private model’s range was 110km/charge). The upcoming eKUV100, on the other hand, is likely to offer at least 250 kilometers of range.

Mahindra had showcased the eKUV100 at the 2020 Auto Expo – The Motor Show. Its production-spec version will be based on Mahindra Electric Scalable Modular Architecture 48 (MESMA 8), which is compatible with both rigid and flexible axle systems allowing operations for commercial as well as private EVs, respectively.

Mahindra is expected to price the eKUV 100 below Rs 9 lakh (after FAME 2 subsidy), making it the most affordable EV in the country. The brand is also gearing up for the launch of XUV300 electric, which is likely to be in your garage by April 2023. Besides, Mahindra will also reveal the three electric concept SUVs in July this year called ‘BORN EVs’. Click here for more details.
