Mahindra discontinues a few variants of Scorpio. Including 4WD?

Utility Manufacturer Mahindra has discontinued a few variants of its famous UV, Scorpio. Scorpio is now available with BS6 engine but fewer options.

BS6 Mahindra Scorpio

Mahindra Scorpio was previously available with two engine options. Though the engine block was the same 2.2 mHawk, the state of tune was different. There was an engine option with 120 bhp & 280nm of torque which was available in S5 and S7 variant. And then there was 140 bhp & 320 nm engine option available on higher variants like S7, S9 and S11.

The reason behind this move of discontinuing the 120bhp option is the shift to BS6. As of now, Mahindra and only tuned its 140bhp version to comply with BS6 norms which came in effect on 31st March 2020bs6 .

Spec sheet on Mahindra's Website has got no mention of 120 bhp engine with 5 speed transmission

Though the Supreme court of India has allowed dealers to sell 10% of their stock of BS4 cars once the lockdown is lifted in India. But manufacturers can not manufacture them anymore for the Indian Market.

Scorpio with its BS4 engine in 120 bhp tune was available in Rs 12,51,000 approx ex-showroom at a starting price. It is expected that prices will go up by at least Rs 60,000 with BS6. Mahindra has not announced prices and currently displaying this message on the website.

What about prices?

Also, it is not clear that Scorpio 4WD will be offered with BS6. While we know that off-roading is in DNA of Mahindra cars and 4WD will not be missed but it is possible that Mahindra might skip 4WD and relaunch it only when the all-new Scorpio is introduced later this year.
