JSW Motors Limited, JSW Group’s independent passenger mobility division, will launch its first car in India around the festive season this year. It is expected to be based on the Jetour T2 plug-in hybrid SUV.
- The Jetour is a marque of the Chinese vehicle manufacturer Chery Automobile that operates in China and several other global markets, like the Middle East, Africa, Southeast Asia and Latin America.
- The second JSW car is expected to be launched sometime in 2027.
- All JSW cars will be sold independently of the JSW-MG partnership.
According to Parth Jindal, Managing Director at JSW Motors, the company will start production in August with local assembly and ramp up to 80% localisation by October, covering key components including the battery pack, body structure, motor and interiors. The brand is targeting the Rs 15-30 lakh price segment for its upcoming models.

For those unaware, the Jetour T2 is a traditional boxy SUV that shares its design cues with the Land Rover Defender. However, it is built with a monocoque chassis instead of a ladder-frame setup. Globally, it is available in both 5-seater and a longer 7-seater versions.
JSW plans to launch its plug-in-hybrid (PHEV) version in India, which uses a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, paired with electric motors. While this setup is expected to deliver a balance of performance and efficiency, the company has yet to confirm whether the SUV will be offered with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. More details are expected closer to the official launch.
As mentioned above, Parth Jindal has already confirmed that JSW’s first product will be positioned in the Rs 15 lakh to Rs 30 lakh price range, indicating that it will sit above the midsize SUV segment. For reference, the front-wheel-drive, 5-seat Jetour T2 i-DM is priced at around Rs 35 lakh in the UAE. However, the final pricing and positioning in India will largely depend on localisation levels and the variant specifications JSW decides to offer.
