Hyundai Issues Recall For Creta and Verna Petrol-CVT Variants

Hyundai Motors India has announced a voluntary recall for 7,698 units of the Creta and Verna due to a potential issue with the electronic oil pump controller, which may impact the performance of the oil pump. All the recalled variants were powered by the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with CVT automatic transmission.

Last month, the Kia Seltos was also recalled for the same issue.

  • These recalled units of the Hyundai Creta and Verna were manufactured between February 13, 2023, and June 06, 2023.
  • Hyundai will soon start contacting the owners of the affected model to arrange a thorough checkup. If necessary, the part will be changed free of cost.
  • Hyundai customers can also contact their nearest authorised service centre or call its customer care centre at 1800-114-645 to check if their Creta or Verna are part of the recall campaign.
  • While Hyundai hasn’t revealed if the affected units are safe to drive in current conditions, we recommend that you verify whether your vehicle is also part of the recall campaign. And if it is, we advise getting your car inspected without any delay.

What Is An Eelectronic Oil Pump Controller?

The electronic oil pump controller in a vehicle is tasked with managing the oil flow within a powertrain. Its primary role is to ensure adequate lubrication at all times, for the powertrain’s smooth operation and longevity. Moreover, the electronic control aspect enables precise adjustment of oil flow based on various factors like engine speed, temperature, and load conditions. This precision enhances both performance and efficiency.

Hyundai Creta, Verna – Powertrain Choices

For those unaware, both Hyundai Creta and Hyundai Verna are available with 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol (115PS/144Nm) and 1.5-litre turbo-petrol (160PS/253Nm) engines. The Hyundai Creta also gets a 1.5-litre diesel (116PS/250Nm) unit. Depending on the model and engine, the transmission options include manual, dual-clutch automatic, and torque converter automatic units.
