Honda And General Motors (GM) To Co-develop Electric Vehicles

Back in April 2020, Honda entered into a strategic partnership with General Motors (GM) to co-develop two new electric vehicles, including the Honda Prologue, based on GM’s EV platform. And now, the two companies have announced their intent to further expand this alliance by codeveloping a series of affordable electric vehicles (EVs) based on an all-new shared global architecture that will be powered by next-generation Ultium battery technology. The first product under this new collaboration will be launched in 2027.

Details about the upcoming products are scarce at the moment, but one of the upcoming EVs will be a compact crossover.

Both the companies will also analyze opportunities for advanced battery collaboration to further bring down the cost of electrification as well as improve performance and drive sustainability for future vehicles.

For those who aren’t aware, GM is already working on new battery technologies like lithium-metal, silicon, and solid-state batteries. In fact, it is also exploring quick manufacturing methods that can be used to improve and update battery cell production processes. On the other hand, Honda is developing all-solid-state batteries and is making further progress toward mass production.

In other updates, Honda is all set to introduce City e:HEV, popularly known as City Hybrid, in our country on April 14, with a launch expected in May 2022.
