Honda Amaze Reassessed in Global NCAP: Now Rated 2 Stars for Safety

The Honda Amaze, along with the Mahindra Bolero Neo and Kia Carens, underwent recent crash tests conducted by the Global NCAP with updated protocols. This time, this Japanese compact sedan scored just 2-stars. Earlier, it was crash-tested by the Global NCAP in 2019, earning a 4-star safety rating.

It’s worth noting that the Global NCAP hasn’t tested the upgraded version of the Amaze, which now gets seatbelt reminders for all seats. The absence of electronic stability control (ESC) and side curtain airbags further contributed to the low safety rating for the Honda Amaze.

Adult Occupant Protection (27.85 points out of 34)

    • Head and neck protection for driver and co-driver: Good

    • Knees protection: Marginal
    • Tibias protection: Good
  2. Side impact test (performed at 50kmph):
    • Head and pelvis protection: Good
    • Chest protection: Marginal
    • Abdomen protection: Adequate
  3. The side pole impact test was not performed due to the unavailability of the curtain airbags.
  4. The bodyshell and footwell area of the Honda Amaze were rated as stable, and the bodyshell was capable of withstanding further impacts.
The Honda Amaze rated two stars for adult and zero stars for child occupant safety

Child Occupant Protection (8.58 points out of 49)

  1. 3-year-old child:
    • Installed forward-facing child seats using ISOFIX anchorages.
    • Some head contact with interior vehicle parts.
  2. 18-month-old child:
    • A rearward-facing child seat wasn’t able to provide protection.

3. Both CRS offered full protection in the side impact test.

Currently, it is priced between Rs 7.20 lakh and Rs 9.96 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), competing against rivals like the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Hyundai Aura, and Tata Tigor.
