Global Chip Crisis Hits Ola Electric; Deliveries Of Ola S1 And S1 Pro Delayed By 3-5 Weeks

The delivery schedule of Ola S1 and S1 Pro has been delayed by 3 to 5 weeks due to the global shortage of chipsets and other electronics parts including the lithium-ion cells. Earlier, the deliveries of the first batch of these electric scooters were scheduled to start from November 25, but it is now expected to begin from December 15. With this, the EV maker has once again pushed back the second purchasing window. As per the previous announcement, it was slated to open on December 17 but now has been programmed for late January 2022.

In other updates, Ola Electric has recently announced that it will deliver a total of 9 customized units of the S1 Pro to the Netherlands Embassy in New Delhi, and to the Consulates General in Mumbai and Bengaluru. These customized units will feature the Netherlands' official orange shade (Ola has called it Dutch Orange) along with an official logo of the country.

Ola Electric has started test rides for the S1 and S1 Pro electric scooters in select cities across the country, including Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Kochi. The company will soon start test rides in other cities as well.

Powering the Ola electric scooter is a 5.5kW mid-drive Internal Permanent Magnet (IPM) motor that delivers a maximum power output of 8.5kW and a peak torque of 58Nm. While the power figures are identical for both variants, their battery packs and performance figures are different from each other. That said, the top-spec S1 Pro gets a 3.97kWh battery pack with an ARAI tested claimed range of 181 kilometers. On the other hand, the entry-level S1 trim gets a 2.98kWh battery that is claimed to cover 121km in a single charge. Features onboard include touchscreen rider's display with onboard navigation, geofencing, remote boot lock/unlock, reverse park assist, hill hold system, cruise control, etc.

Currently, the Ola S1 and S1 Pro retail at Rs 99,999 and Rs 1,29,999 (ex-showroom). The price further drops by a significant margin once you opt all the subsidies available in your state.
