December 2020 Sales Report: Top 10 Highest Selling Brands

The year 2020 has finally ended and the sales report for December 2020 has been released, which showcases the performance of the major auto brands in the Indian market. The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic spoiled the first half of the last year very badly, however, in the second half of 2020, the auto industry gained some pace and done a decent number of sales. In the last month of the decade, most of the manufacturers have registered negative growth against November 2020. However, Maruti Suzuki managed to continue its domination with positive numbers in the sales chart. Tata Motors, on the other hand, has also registered concrete growth on both MoM & YoY graph.

Takeaways:- 

  • Maruti continued to maintain its dominance in the passenger car market with MoM & YoY growth of 3.67% and 14.64% respectively. 
  • With 47,400 units of sales, the Korean carmaker Hyundai remained in 2nd position. It registered YoY growth of 25%, however, compared to November 2020, its sales went down in December month.

  • The third manufacture on the list is Tata Motors, which is witnessing a huge rise in sales over the past months. After Kia Motors, its YoY germination is the second-highest on the list. 
  • With 16,182 units of sales, Mahindra acquired the fourth spot on the list, defeating Kia Motors by a difference of around 4400 units. 
  • Kia Motors recorded a total sale of 11,818 units in December 2020, which is an immense drop of approximately 44% in comparison to the sales numbers of November 2020, however, its YoY growth is highest among all.

  • From the remaining players, only Nissan and Volkswagen have recorded positive growth in MoM, whereas the sales of all the other manufacturers saw a decline. 
  • The sales chart indicates alarming situations for Ford and Jeep. Both American brands have more than 45% of negative growth in each parameter. Ford has also called off its joint venture with the Mahindra. Therefore, this year can be a do or die period for the brand.
