Tata Tigor Renamed Aeris, Launched With New Design and Features

After tons of teasers and leaked images, the much-awaited Tata Aeris has finally been launched in India, with prices starting from Rs 5.29 lakh (ex-showroom). It is essentially an upgraded version of the Tigor with a significant design overhaul inside & out, a new platform, bigger footprint and a host of new amenities.

Bookings for the Aeris are now open, while deliveries are slated to begin from Navratri.

Tata Aeris Design

At first glance, the Aeris doesn’t look much different from the new Tata Tiago. Upfront, it features new sweptback LED headlamps with integrated LED DRL strips at the top. It comes connected by a Tiago-like black bar with the ‘Tata’ logo at the centre. However, the bumper is differently designed from its hatchback version, featuring pronounced C-shaped corners and redesigned central air intakes.

When viewed from the sides, the new sedan retains the outgoing Tigor’s notchback-style tapering roofline. However, it gets newly designed 15-inch alloy wheels and ‘Aeris’ lettering on the front doors, giving it a distinct identity.

The rear receives a connected LED tail lamp setup, an updated rear bumper with C-shaped corners & integrated static reflectors, and the “AERIS” lettering on the boot.

What’s more interesting is that the Aeris gets externally mounted boot-lid hinges instead of the conventional hinges positioned inside the boot. This frees up additional space within the boot, allowing for more practical and efficient use of the available 419 litres of luggage area.

Numbers That Matter

Based on the new-gen X Alfa architecture, the Aeris is 3,995mm long, 1,684mm wide and 1,532mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,450mm. Tata claims that it has been designed to offer a smoother ride than the competition and tackle rough surfaces with greater ease, thanks to an approach angle of 22.4 degrees, a departure angle of 31.7 degrees, and a ramp-over angle of 21.4 degrees. It has a ground clearance of 170mm.

Colour Options

The Aeris is available in six colour options, namely Dandeli Drizzle, Nitro Crimson Red, Dune Glow, Daytona Grey, Pure Grey, and Pristine White.

Tata Aeris Interior and Features

Inside, the Aeris gets the same dashboard layout as the Tata Tiago, with a light theme that makes the cabin feel more spacious. It features a layered layout with a soft-fabric finish on the upper layer, along with a textured finish behind the floating instrument cluster. The dashboard also houses a large 10.25-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system, taking centre stage.

Compared to the Tigor, the new sedan also gets new amenities like leatherette upholstery, dual wireless charging pods at the start of the centre console tunnel, ventilated front seats, and a 360-degree camera with integrated dashcam & DVR.

The other notable amenities include automatic headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, steering-mounted controls, height-adjustable driver’s seat, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, connected car tech, auto AC, rear AC vents, front & rear centre armrest, keyless entry with push-button start/stop, 6 airbags, tyre pressure monitoring system, hill assist, ISOFIX child seat anchors, rollover mitigation, and much more.

Tata Aeris Powertrain Option

The Tata Aeris carries forward the same powertrain options as the outgoing Tata Tigor, which include a 1.2-litre petrol, with an optional factory-fitted dual-cylinder CNG kit. Both of these powertrain choices come with a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT.

Rivals

In the sub-4m sedan segment, the Aeris is positioned against the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Honda Amaze and Hyundai Aura.
