Kia Carens CNG, Carens Clavis CNG: Engine specifications

Powering the factory-fitted CNG-equipped versions of the Kia Carens and Carens Clavis is a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine producing 96hp and 123Nm in CNG mode. That’s roughly 19hp and 21Nm down compared to the petrol version. Transmission duties are handled by a 6-speed manual gearbox. The same CNG powertrain will also be offered with the upcoming Hyundai Bayon.

Other Details

Kia has equipped this factory-fitted CNG tank beneath the boot floor in both Carens and Carens Clavis. As a result, the boot capacity has been reduced from 216 litres to 116 litres. However, both MPVs continue to get an underbody-mounted spare wheel.

The Korean carmaker also claims that it has retuned the suspension setup and upgraded the front disc brakes to handle the additional weight of the CNG tank and related components. They also get a dedicated fuel-change switch.

Kia has also modified the 3rd row’s back-seat frame to improve the recline angle for better comfort.
