Tata Sierra to Hit Roads Again by FY2026

The highly anticipated Tata Sierra SUV is slated to make a comeback in FY2026. First showcased in a concept form at the 2020 Auto Expo, the upcoming Sierra will blend nostalgic design cues with futuristic styling and modern-day tech, promising a bold new chapter for one of India’s most beloved nameplates.

The automaker has confirmed that the new Sierra car will initially arrive in an electric avatar, followed by an ICE version.

For those unaware, the ICE-powered Tata Sierra was recently showcased in a near-production avatar at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Expo. It featured a revolutionary departure from Tata’s usual design. However, it retained the OG Sierra’s iconic glasshouse pattern, albeit with a modern twist. It also received flush-fitting door handles, Tata’s new front facia with a full-width spanning LED DRL, stylish dual-tone alloys and functional roof rails. Unlike the old-gen Sierra, which was a 3-door model, the modern electrified Sierra will be offered in a 5-door layout.

On the other hand, its electric derivative, the Sierra EV, will feature a few distinctive design elements to denote its electric nature. Some of them will include an EV-specific closed-off front grille, redesigned alloys and “.EV” badging on the fenders and tailgate.

Going by the patent images, the Sierra is expected to get the same layered dashboard design as its concept model. It is likely to get a large floating display in the centre for the infotainment that will be connected to the digital cluster’s housing. However, the steering and HVAC controls will be the same as the Tata Safari and Harrier.

Regarding features, it is expected to come loaded with amenities like dual-zone climate control, powered front seats with ventilation & memory functions, a panoramic sunroof, premium sound system, a 360-degree camera, and a level-2 ADAS suite.

Technical details about the Sierra are scarce at the moment. However, we know that it will be based on the Gen2 architecture. Beneath the bonnet, the ICE-powered Sierra is expected to house the brand’s new 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol (170PS/280Nm) and the Harrier’s 2-litre diesel engine, albeit in a different state of tune. Interestingly, it will also get an optional all-wheel-drive (AWD) setup. On the other hand, the Sierra EV will be offered with both single and dual-motor setups, with over 500 km range on a full charge.
