Kia EV6 Recalled Due To Potential Charging Unit Issue

Kia India has announced a recall for the EV6 crossover over a potential issue in the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU). As per the carmaker, the recall affected 1138 units of the Kia EV6, manufactured between March 3, 2022, and April 14, 2023.

Earlier, the Hyundai INONIQ 5 was also affected by the same issue.

Kia EV6 owners are advised to visit their nearest authorized dealership for inspection. The company will also contact affected vehicle owners. If a fault is detected, the part will be replaced at no extra cost.

What is IICU?

The Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) is a crucial component that handles the charging process. It integrates various functions related to charging, such as converting AC to DC power for the battery and ensuring efficient, safe charging cycles. It also communicates with charging stations and monitors battery health to prevent overcharging and overheating. It also enables V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) charging.

About Kia EV6

  • Kia EV6 is essentially an electric crossover, which underpins the Hyundai Group’s Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) and comes with a 77.4 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery pack that claims approximately 528 kilometres of drive range on a single charge. It comes in two drivetrain options: rear-wheel-drive (RWD) and all-wheel-drive (AWD).
  • The RWD version comes with a rear axle-mounted motor that belts out 229PS of max power and 350Nm of peak torque, while the AWD version comes equipped with a dual-motor setup offering a combined output of 325PS/605Nm.
  • The EV supports ultra-fast charging of up to 350kW which can add 100 km of range in simply 4.5 minutes.

  • Regarding features, the Kia EV6 boasts: –
    • Dual-connected displays for the infotainment and driver’s display
    • Dual-zone climate control
    • 10-way adjustable powered front seats with ventilation function
    • A 14-speaker Meridian sound system
    • Electric sunroof
    • Eight airbags
    • Electronic stability control
    • Advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) that includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, and many more.
  • The prices of the Kia EV6 start from Rs 60.97 lakh and go up to Rs 65.97 lakh (ex-showroom), taking on the Hyundai Ioniq, Volvo XC40 Recharge and BMW i4.
