Over 1700 Units of Hyundai IONIQ 5 Recalled

The Hyundai IONIQ 5 has been recalled over a potential issue with the Integrated Charging Control Unit (IICU). Over 1700 units, manufactured from its launch until April 2024, are affected by this recall.

Hyundai has announced that it will soon start contacting the owners of affected customers to schedule inspections and fix the issue at no cost.

What is IICU?

The Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) is a crucial component that handles the charging process. It integrates various functions related to charging, such as converting AC to DC power for the battery and ensuring efficient, safe charging cycles. It also communicates with charging stations and monitors battery health to prevent overcharging and overheating. It also enables V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) charging.

About Hyundai IONIQ 5

Based on the same Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), the IONIQ 5 flaunts the brand’s Parametric Pixel design theme. It comes with a 72.6 kWh battery pack and a rear-wheel drivetrain (RWD, claiming a max output of 217PS/315Nm and a range of around 631 kilometres. It can do the century sprint in simply 7.6 seconds.

Features highlights of the IONIQ 5 include 12-inch touchscreen infotainment, a 12-inch digital driver’s display, an augmented reality (AR) head-up display (HUD), a wireless smartphone charger, dual-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof ambient lighting, and Hyundai SmartSense technology (ADAS) that includes various reader-based active safety features.

Price and Competitors

Hyundai retails the IONIQ 5 at Rs 46.05 lakh (ex-showroom), positioning it against the Kia EV6, BMW i4 and Volvo XC40 Recharge.
