Honda To Launch Two Electric Scooters In FY24; Activa EV Incoming

Two-wheeler giant Honda has announced to foray into the aggressively mushrooming EV space. The company has recently revealed its plan for electric mobility, and here’s everything you need to know about: –

  • Honda will introduce two electric scooters in the financial year 2024.
  • Both electric scooters will be structured on a dedicated EV platform called ‘Platform-E’.
  • Out of the two, one will be a fixed battery type EV, while the other will feature battery-swapping technology.
  •  The codenames for these two EVs are GJNA and K4BA.
  • Honda is likely to name its debutante electric scooter the Activa EV.
  • The first Honda e-scooter (Activa EV) will be a mid-range offering with a fixed battery type.
  • Going by Honda’s recent patent filing, these EVs could get hub-mounted motors.

  •  Honda will also set up a dedicated EV manufacturing facility in Narsapura, Karnataka, which will have a production capacity of ten lakh units per annum (by 2030).
  • The Japanese bikemaker will heavily localize motors, batteries, power control units (PCU), and chargers to price their EVs competitively. With this, the Honda EVs will be better suited to Indian weather conditions.
  • Honda has also announced to set up battery-swapping and charging stations at its 6,000+ dealerships across the country.
  • Honda has also announced to make its existing ICE portfolio E20-ready by the first half of 2024.

In other news, Honda has recently launched the upgraded iteration of Activa 125. As well as being OBD2 compatible, it has a car-like keyfob that can be used for a variety of smart functions.
