Upcoming Cars By Mid-2022

We’re entering the 5th month of the year and have witnessed a lot of great launches and car unveils. Here are some upcoming vehicles you can expect to purchase before the first half of 2022 closes.

Tata Nexon EV Facelift

Currently, the highest-selling EV in the country, the only thing plaguing the Nexon EV is its range issues. But that’s all set to change as Tata Motor is planning to introduce a long-range version of the Nexon EV with a facelift update, which is likely to come with a 40-kWh battery pack option claiming a range of over 400km.

Volkswagen Virtus

The Volkswagen Virtus will be the newest mid-size sedan offering by the German automaker that is set to be launched on June 9, 2022. Revealed last month, the Virtus shares its underpinnings with its sister the Skoda Slavia, with only visual changes in the exterior and interior design but comes with the same peppy 1.0L and 1.5L TSI petrol engines, paired with either a 6-speed manual, 6-speed torque converter or 7-speed DSG gearbox.

With its unveiling in the country very recently, Honda has said that the prices for the City Hybrid will be announced in the month of May. The Honda City e:HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle) comes with a 1.5L Atkinson cycle petrol engine, paired with dual electric motors. Expected to be priced around Rs 17.5-18 lakh, it will be the most affordable fully hybrid offering in the country.

Citroen C3

The second addition to the French automaker’s lineup in the country, the Citroen C3 is going to be a much more compelling and affordable offering in comparison to the C5 Aircross, and one which is catered specifically towards the Indian market. Entering as an addition to the micro-SUV segment, it will go toe-to-toe with the likes of Tata Punch, Maruti Suzuki Ignis, and Mahindra KUV100 NXT.

Jeep Meridian

Unveiled very recently, the Jeep Meridian is a 7-seater version of the Compass and shares very similar design cues, especially inside the cabin. It will be offered with Compass’s 2.0L turbocharged diesel engine paired with either a 6-speed manual or 9-speed automatic transmission, producing 170PS of power and 350Nm of torque. Features onboard include a 360-degree surround view system, 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment with wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, powered front seats with memory function for the driver seat, panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, 6-airbags (standard), and traction assist functions to name a few. It will be Jeep’s full-sized SUV offering in the country and will compete against the MG Gloster, Toyota Fortuner, Mahindra Alturas G4, and the petrol-only Skoda Kodiaq.

Maruit Suzuki Baleno/Toyota Glanza CNG

Maruti Baleno and Toyota Glanza CNG launch soon

The very recently launched facelifted Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Toyota Glanza are said to receive a CNG powertrain option very soon. Paired with the ongoing 1.2L K-series Dualjet petrol engine, fuel efficiency figures of the CNG-kit equipped Baleno/Glanza are said to be over 30km/kg. However, the power figures will take a hit in comparison to the standalone petrol engine (90PS/113Nm).
