Tata Altroz Gets A New XE+ Variant; XE Rhythm Pack And XM Trim Discontinued

Tata Motors has silently rejigged the variant lineup of its highly popular Altroz premium hatchback. The carmaker has axed the XE Rhythm pack and second-to-base XM trim from its menu and introduced a new XE+ variant at Rs 6.35 lakh (ex-showroom) for petrol and Rs 7.55 lakh for the diesel model, commanding a premium of Rs 50,000 over the base XE trim. However, it is still up to Rs 15,000 cheaper than the now-discontinued XM variant (Rs 6.50 – 7.65 lakh). Furthermore, the XM+ now gets rear speakers in addition to the front speakers that were already on offer.

For this extra dough, the new XE+ trim gets lots of additional features over the XE trim such as a 3.5-inch audio system with Bluetooth connectivity, 4 speakers, keyless entry, fast USB charger, and follow me home headlights. However, we believe the premium is still on the higher side.

Safety is taken care of by dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, and ISOFIX child seat mounts. Compared to the XM variant, it still misses out on wheel caps, power-adjustable outside mirrors (ORVMs), and rear parcel shelf.

No other changes have been made to the hot-hatch. The Altroz will continue to be available with three engine options – an 86PS 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol, a 90PS 1.5-litre diesel, and a 110PS 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, all coupled with a 5-speed manual gearbox with no automatic option. Tata could introduce its naturally aspirated unit with a more economical & environment-friendly factory-fitted CNG kit in the near future.

Currently, the Tata Altroz is priced from Rs 5.84 lakh to Rs 9.59 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), rivaling the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai i20, Honda Jazz, Toyota Glanza, and Volkswagen Polo.
