New-Gen Honda BR-V Revealed, Will It Launch In India?

Remember the Honda BR-V crossover MPV, which was discontinued from the Indian market last year? Well, the brand has now revealed its new-generation version for the Indonesian market. It is essentially a production-spec version of the N7X concept unveiled back in May 2021.

2021 Honda BR-V: Design & Features

The new-generation iteration of the Honda BR-V shares its underpinnings with 5th-generation Honda City and offers an astonishing combination of SUV and MPV body styles. In fact, its styling is now more SUV-ish with an upright stance and boxier silhouette. The three-row SUV features a large grille upfront with plenty of chrome elements that gracefully blend with sleek LED headlamps that also integrate LED Daytime Running Lamps (DRLs). It features sharper character lines and well-rounded wheel arches. Furthermore, its chunkier bumpers at both ends with muscular silver skid plates and prominent black-plastic cladding all around the bottom edge adds to its overall appearance.

Inside, you will notice the Honda Amaze-like dashboard design with a touch of leather for added premiumness. But what's more interesting is the incorporation of the Honda Sensing ADAS suite that includes advanced driver-assist safety techs like adaptive cruise control, autonomous braking system, lane keep assist, lane car departure notification, auto high beam, blind-spot detection, and road departure mitigation system, etc.

Besides, the new BR-V also gets premium features like ORVM-mounted LaneWatch cameras, remote engine start, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity, hands-free telephone function, a 4.2-inch MID in the instrument cluster, and much more.

2021 Honda BR-V: Powertrain

Aside from the platform, the new Honda BR-V also borrows mechanicals from the City sedan. That said, it will draw its power from a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine, mated to a CVT automatic transmission and kicking out a maximum power of 121PS and a peak torque of 145Nm. It misses out on a diesel engine and a manual transmission option.

New Honda BR-V: Will it launch in India?

Honda discontinued the BR-V from the Indian market due to its low demand. Therefore, there is no point in re-introducing it. However, Honda could launch a new Indian-centric SUV, which may share some elements from the new BR-V.
