Unofficial Bookings Open For New Maruti Suzuki Celerio

Select Maruti Suzuki dealerships have reportedly started accepting unofficial bookings for the next-generation Celerio compact hatchback for a refundable token amount ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 11,000. Earlier, it was supposed to be launched in April 2021, but the second wave of the COVID19 pandemic pushed its arrival to September 2021.

For those who aren't aware, the patent images of the new Maruti Celerio have already been leaked on the webs. It seems to be slightly bigger than the current model. It is expected to be based on the 5th-generation Heartact platform, which will make it more rigid and safer than before.

The 2021 Celerio will feature a completely different design for both exterior and interior, as well as more features and new engine options. The spy and patent images confirm that the hatchback will get a more mature design than the current model, featuring a more upright nose at the front with an elliptical-shaped grille with honeycomb mesh elements, flanked by droplet-shaped new headlamps that are connected by a chrome strip. We suspect there will be black applique around the fog lamps and air dam. Some of the other notable design elements will include larger newly-designed alloy wheels, a slightly tapered roofline, an upright tailgate, wraparound taillamps, and refreshed bumper with creased ends.

For features, the new Celerio is expected to get a 7-inch SmartPlay Studio touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple Carplay, multifunction steering wheel, auto AC, a colored MID (multi-info display) for the instrument cluster, all-four power windows, keyless entry with push start, etc. Safety features onboard will include dual-front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors with camera, and more.

The Celerio will be offered with two petrol engines: a 1.0-liter 3-cylinder K10B unit (68PS/90Nm) from the ongoing model and a more refined 1.2-liter 4-cylinder unit (82PS/113Nm) borrowed from the WagonR. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual and an AMT automatic. The 1.0-liter mill, on the other hand, will continue to come with an optional factory-fitted CNG kit.

We believe the new Celerio will surely command a premium over the existing model, which retails between Rs 4.66 lakh to Rs 5.91 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Once launched, it will rekindle its rivalry with the likes of the Hyundai Santro (Rs 4.73-6.41 lakh)Tata Tiago (Rs 4.99-6.95 lakh), and the Datsun GO (Rs 4.02-6.51 lakh).
