Skoda is all set to foray into the heavily contested compact SUV segment with Kushaq tomorrow to take on the likes of Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks, Renault Duster, Maruti S-Cross, and its own upcoming sibling, Volkswagen Taigun. It will be available in three trims: Active, Ambition, and Style.

For those who aren't aware, the word 'Kushaq' is originated from the Sanskrit word- 'kushak', which means king. It will be based on the MQB-AO-IN platform (a derivative of Volkswagen Group’s MQB-AO platform), which has been localized especially for the Indian market.

In terms of dimensions, the Kushaq measures 4,225mm in length, 1,760mm in width, and has a height of 1,612mm. At 2,651mm, it has one of the segment’s largest wheelbase (after Kicks & Duster) and a modest ground clearance of 155mm.

The five-seater Skoda Kushaq SUV will get two engine options – 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbo-petrol (115PS/178Nm), and 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder turbo-petrol (150PS/250Nm). While a 6-speed manual gearbox will be standard for both, the 1.0-litre engine will also get an optional 6-speed torque converter while the bigger displacement unit will come with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic (DSG) option. Also, it is important to note that the 1.5-liter unit will only be exclusive to the top-spec Style variant.

Skoda has loaded the Kushaq with a long list of premium features such as automatic LED headlamps, electric sunroof, cruise control, auto climate control with rear AC vents, ventilated front seats, wireless charging, ambient lighting two-spoke multi-function steering wheel, multiple Type-C USB ports, 6 speakers with a 50W subwoofer, and a free-standing 10-inch touchscreen PLAY infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, connected car technology, a ‘Valet’ mode, in-built apps, in-car Wi-Fi, and more.

Safety will be taken care of by up to six airbags, ABS with EBD, a tire-pressure monitoring system, electronic stability control (standard), multi-collision braking, hill-hold control, rear parking sensors, and reverse camera.

Skoda Kushaq will be offered in five color options: Carbon Steel, Tornado Red, Metallic Honey Orange, Candy White, and Brilliant Silver, wherein the Honey Orange and Tornado Red are exclusively for the Indian market.

Since the Kushaq is a heavily localized product (up to 95% localization), it is likely to be priced competitively with its opponents. We assume the Skoda to price it between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 17 lakh (ex-showroom).
