Next-Gen Mahindra Scorpio Likely To Launch In February 2021

The launch of the next-generation Mahindra Scorpio is reportedly pushed to February 2022. Earlier, it was expected to come by the end of 2021 but now the launch has been delayed due to the shortage of semiconductors and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The new-gen Mahindra Scorpio has been spied testing numerous times and we know that it will come with refreshed styling, new features, and updated powertrain options. While it will retain its boxy silhouette, it will be bigger & premium than the existing model.

Revealed by the spy shots, the 2022 Scorpio will get twin-barrel headlamps with integrated LED DRLs, 5-split V-spoke alloy wheels, all-wheels disc brakes, an all-black cabin, a larger touchscreen infotainment system, vertically-oriented AC vents, a semi-digital instrument console, a flat-bottom steering wheel (borrowed from the Thar), engine start/stop button, auto climate control, and an electric sunroof in its top-spec variant.

Besides the above-mentioned features, the new Scorpio is also likely to get connected car technology, cruise control, up to six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), rear parking sensors & camera, etc.

In terms of mechanicals, Mahindra is expected to offer the upgraded Scorpio with 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and 2.2-liter diesel engines, as the second-generation Thar but in a higher state of tune. For reference, the Thar petrol delivers 150PS and 320Nm, whereas its diesel model produces 130PS and 300Nm. Transmission options are expected to include a 6-speed manual and torque converter automatic for both engines. It is likely to get a two-wheel-drivetrain (2WD) as standard. However, there will also be an option for a four-wheel-drivetrain (4WD) with selected variants.
