Mahindra Thar To Get Pricier From Tomorrow

Mahindra is all set to hike the prices of the second-generation Thar from tomorrow i.e. 1st December 2020. The hike could range up to Rs 50,000 and new prices will be announced tomorrow.

2020 Mahindra Thar – Reason for Price Hike

On 2nd October, Mahindra had launched the all-new Thar SUV at a price range of Rs 9.80 lakh to Rs 13.75 lakh (ex-showroom). These prices were introductory; hence, it was already evident that its prices would be increased in the coming time. The price increment will be applied to both petrol and diesel models, across its variants.

It is important to note that the revised prices will be effective for new bookings. Buyers who have booked the 2020 Mahindra Thar until today, will get it at the initial prices.

Currently, the Mahindra Thar is in huge demand. The brand has received over 20,000 bookings, and as a result, the off-roader is commanding a waiting period of up to 7 months. Ultimately, this massive popularity among the customers has forced Mahindra to boost up the production capacity from 2,000 to 3,000 units.

One must note that the Mahindra has recently halted the bookings of Thar's entry-level trims- AX STD & AX. And we suspect that the brand could reopen the bookings tomorrow by offering these variants too with forward-facing rear seats, knowing the fact that the model with front-facing rear seats has secured 4-star in NCAP crash test. Currently, only the AX Option and top-spec LX variants of the Thar come with this seating configuration.

2020 Mahindra Thar – Engine and gearbox

The second-generation Mahindra Thar comes with both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol model comprises a 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder turbocharged engine that churns out 150PS of power and up to 320Nm of torque. The diesel model, on the other hand, draws its power from a 2.2-liter turbocharged unit, making 130PS and 320Nm. Both engines are offered with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox options. Being an off-roader, it gets a 4×4 system and a manual-shift transfer case as standard.

Currently, in the Indian market, Mahindra Thar has no direct competitor. But in near future, it will face a direct fight from next-gen Force Gurkha and Maruti Suzuki Jimny. Till these SUVs hit the Indian market, the Thar will enjoy its exclusivity in the segment, and if you are looking to buy this modern off-roader, click here to see if this is a good option for daily routines.
