Hyundai Elite i20 Axed Ahead Of New i20 Launch

Hyundai is all set to launch the new i20 on 5th November 2020. The booking of the new hatch has been started already for a token amount of Rs 21,000. In this process, the Korean maker has also discontinued the second-generation Elite i20 and removed its name from the official website. It is also reported that most of the Hyundai dealers have also depleted their inventory.

The second-generation i20 was launched in August 2014 in India as the 'Elite i20'. At the time of launch, it was offered in a total of ten variants and two engine options. Later, Hyundai kicked its diesel variants when the BS6 norms came into effect in April 2020. It was available in only three variants before being discontinued – Magna+, Sportz+ and Asta (O).

It was the second most selling car of the premium hatchback after the Maruti Suzuki Nexa Baleno. Elite i20 had also won the 2015 Indian Car of The Year (ICOTY) award. Its features rich premium cabin was its USP.

On the other hand, it appears that Hyundai has made every effort to make the new i20 even better than before. With new i20, Hyundai has removed its 'Elite' tag from its name, and it will be offered with three engine options: 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol, 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol and 1.5-litre diesel.
