New Tata Nexon XM (S) Variant With Sunroof Launched In India, Price Starts From Rs 8.36 lakh

In order to make the sunroof more accessible for customers, Tata Motors has added a new XM (S) variant in Nexon's line-up with this premium feature. It is positioned between the XM and XZ variants. The price of the new XM (S) trim starts from Rs 8.36 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Earlier, the electric sunroof was only available with XZ+ (O) and  XZ+ (S) variants.

Tata Nexon XM (S) variant is available with both 1.2-litre turbo-petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines with manual and AMT transmission option. Their prices are as follows:-

Powertrain

XM (S)

XMA (S) #

Petrol

Rs 8.36 lakh

Rs 8.96 lakh

Diesel

Rs 9.70 lakh

Rs 10.30 lakh

*All prices are ex-showroom Delhi, #AMT variants

This new sunroof equipped alternative undercuts the top XZ+ (O) variant by Rs 2.18 lakh and Rs 2.2 lakh for petrol and diesel option respectively. With this, Nexon XM (S) has become the most affordable car with a sunroof.

Is there any other additional feature on offer?

In comparison to its non-sunroof counterpart i.e. XM trim, It demands a premium of Rs 52,000 for the petrol model and Rs 50,000 for the diesel model. The premium amount seems justified as the XM (S) variant also gets automatic headlamps, rain-sensing wipers and steering-mounted controls over the features of XM variant.

Apart from these, it carries forward the features of XM variant on which it is based. It includes LED DRLs with projector headlamps, ConnectNext infotainment system By Harman with 3.5" screen, four speakers, Bluetooth connectivity, digital instrument cluster, manual AC, multiple drive modes, electric ORVM with auto fold function, etc. Safety kit comprises dual-front airbags, ABS with EBD, brake assist (BS), rear parking sensors, hill-hold assist, ESP with Roll-Over Mitigation, traction control, Isofix child seat mounts and many more.

Rivals

In sub-4m SUV segment, the Tata Nexon rivals the Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Mahindra XUV300, Ford EcoSport and Honda WR-V. Except for the Maruti Vitara Brezza, the higher variants of all other cars are equipped with a sunroof, however, they are much highly-priced than the Nexon XM (S) variant.

Author's Take

A sunroof is currently in high demand among customers, hence making the feature more accessible is a good move to attract customers. However, whether these tactics accomplish the Tata's goals or not will have to be seen.
