2024 Maruti Dzire Driven: The Good, The Bad and the Verdict

The Maruti Suzuki Dzire has recently caught buyers’ attention for two main reasons, first for its latest generational update and second for its impressive safety rating from the Global NCAP. These factors have positioned the Dzire as a more mature and evolved offering in the segment. In this story, we dive into the pros and cons of the new Maruti Dzire to help you decide if it’s the right choice for you.

Things We Like About The New Maruti Dzire (Pros)

  • Improved Safety: With the generational change, the brand has significantly enhanced the safety quotient of the new sedan. It now comes standard with features like six airbags, ABS with EBD, traction control, hill assist, rear defogger, 3-point seat belts for all, pretensioner & load limited for the front seats, and ISOFIX child seat anchors. Additionally, the brand has also reinforced the chassis, contributing to its impressive 5-star safety rating for adult occupant protection and 4-star for child occupant protection in recent crash tests conducted by the Global NCAP.
  • Fuel Efficiency: The Dzire sets a benchmark with its segment-best fuel efficiency, making it the most economical choice among compact sedans. It claims 24.79 kmph from petrol-manual, 25.71 kmpl from petrol-AMT and 33.73 km/kg from the CNG version. Though we haven’t tested its fuel efficiency extensively, we expect it to deliver figures close to the claimed ones, especially on highways, if driven in a laid-back manner.
  • Ride and Handling: The Dzire features the same suspension hardware as the Swift but with slight tweaks to compensate for the increase in kerb weight. Despite that, the sedan rides well and absorbs the unevenness of the road beautifully. The steering response is also decent for its segment.
  • Decent Space and Comfortable Cabin: The new Dzire offers a well-balanced cabin. With generous legroom, foot room and knee room for both front & rear passengers, it can easily accommodate four adults. The rear seats are comfy and supportive and provide decent underthigh support. Furthermore, features like adjustable headrests, rear AC vents, and a foldable centre armrest with cup holders enhance long-distance comfort. However, the headroom is a bit tight for taller passengers.
  • Adequately Packed: The new Dzire is a well-packed compact sedan, featuring some segment-first features like a 360-degree camera and a single-pane electric sunroof. The other creature comfort includes automatic LED headlamps, LED fog lamps, cruise control, height-adjustable driver’s seat, automatic AC, rear AC vents, wireless charger, a 9-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, coloured MID, smart keyless entry with push button start, power-adjustable & foldable side mirrors, rear centre armrest, adjustable headrests and much more.

Things That Could Have Been Better (Cons)

  • NVH Levels: The 1.2-litre Z12E 3-cylinder petrol engine of the new Maruti Dzire has some vibrations at low rpms. The engine is also quite noisy and gets strained when pushing hard.
  • Missing Features – While the new Dzire gets a few class-leading additions, features like a front armrest, digital driver’s display, ambient lighting and auto-dimming IRVM would have made it a more wholesome offering.
  • A Miss For Enthusiasts: – The Dzire’s new 3-cylinder engine is good for daily commutes, but it lacks the punch to excite driving enthusiasts. There’s also a noticeable drop in power when compared to the outgoing K12B 4-cylinder engine. However, the power builds up smoothly and linearly.
  • Letdown for Taller Passengers: The rear seat of the 2024 Maruti Dzire offers limited comfort for taller passengers, with mediocre under-thigh support and restricted headroom. Those who enjoy taking naps on extended drives might find themselves bumping their heads on bad roads, making the overall experience less enjoyable.

Verdict

Maruti Suzuki has undoubtedly made commendable efforts with the new Dzire, making it a more mature and desirable offering than before. It looks premium, rides pleasingly, and is well-equipped too. Additionally, it is safer than its predecessor. While its new engine lacks peppiness, its performance is just adequate for everyday driving conditions.

With prices ranging between Rs 6.79 lakh and Rs 10.14 lakh (ex-showroom), the 2024 Maruti Dzire offers excellent value for money, making it a great choice for those looking for a compact yet practical sedan.
