Skoda Auto India has recently launched the fourth-generation Octavia executive sedan at a starting price of Rs 25.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Being a generational update, the new Octavia gets revised looks, additional features, and a new petrol engine. All this has led to a hefty price premium over the previous generation model, making it the most expensive D-segment sedan one can buy now. Even its base-spec Style variant is approximately Rs 5 lakh more expensive than Hyundai Elantra's top-spec variant. So, is it worthy enough to pick the new Skoda Octavia over the Korean sedan? Dimension-wise, the Octavia is bigger than the Elantra in all areas except for the wheelbase. The Elantra has 20mm more space between the two axles, which could result in more cabin space. Also, it is important to note that the Hyundai hasn’t officially revealed the Elantra’s ground clearance and boot space figures.

The 2.0-litre turbocharged engine of the Octavia is the most powerful, torquiest and frugal of the lot; however, it only comes with an automatic transmission. Meanwhile, the Elantra can be had with both manual and automatic options alongside a 1.5-litre diesel engine choice, which is good in generating 115PS and 250Nm. While the Czech sedan misses out on diesel motor, it could get a smaller 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine at a later stage.

The on-paper specifications and long features list of the new Octavia undoubtedly turns the dice in Skoda's favor; however, the prices of the Hyundai Elantra make it a good value for money.
