2021 Rolls-Royce Ghost: About the car

Exterior

The new generation of the ghost does not look much different from its predecessor but there are some minor details one could notice with on a closer look. The new laser headlights with an illumination range of 600m is one such change and some a minor tweaks in the bumper to give the car a sharper look. The front bumper also comprises an air intake fording its width. It also houses C-shaped daytime running lights integrated in headlamp units.

New Rolls-Royce Ghost

Keeping the car close to the original is no coincidence. The brand has cleared that the design decisions were taken with input from the existing customers and most of them advocated to "not changing too much". The side profile and the rear are pretty much similar looking.

Rolls Royce, but, claims that the only components this car shares with the original are the spirit of ecstasy bonnet ornament sculpture and the umbrellas in the doors. The car is based on aluminum-based spaceframe Architecture. There has been a slight change in dimensions as well, the new car thus stands bigger (not by big margins) with a similar wheelbase (3295mm).

Interior

The car looks pretty familiar on the inside. The brand made a clear stand about using enough technology to keep you connected to your work but the car does not overwhelm you with too many dazzling screens.

The layout is clean, simple, and effective. What really stands out is the ghost lettering illuminated by 152 LEDs and 85O 'stars' on the passenger side of the dashboard, these illuminate only when the car starts.

Rolls Royce did try a no sound cabin but it was deemed as disorienting and hence limited the cabin noise to a constant 'whisper' this has been made possible with around 100kgs of acoustic material.

Features

Rolls royce ghost features

It would be futile to try to list out and discuss everything on the feature list of the car because that is not something that could be limited to an article like this. Anything possible car technology you may think of is very probably housed in this vehicle. However, some of the notable features are a head-up display, micro-environment purification system for the climate control system, electrical opening/closing of the doors, rear-seat entertainment screens and a 1,300-watt bespoke audio system, 850 surrounding stars, glowing Ghost nameplates, 360-degree cameras, adaptive cruise control, alertness assistant, auto-park assist, night-time wildlife and pedestrian warning, etc.

Mechanicals

With the 6.75-litre twin-turbo V12, producing 571hp and 850Nm of torque, the 2.5-tonne ghost has 0-100kmph figures of 4.8 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 250 kmph. The peak torque is available from 1600rpm.

The car comes with a planar suspension system with the world's first 'upper wishbone damper' for front suspension which works with self-leveling air suspension. This system is connected to a camera which monitors road condition to produce the best ride quality (up to 100 kmph) a GPS based system monitors every next turn and decides on the gear in which the car should take the turn to produce the best results. The power comes to all wheels. And rear-wheel steering enhances maneuverability at low speeds and agility at high speeds. The car is the closest experience to a 'flight on land'.

Price

The price of the new Rolls Royce Ghost starts at $332,500 (up $20,600 from the current model) which is roughly INR 2.43 crore. But it would cost you around Rs 7 Crore in India. Deliveries are expected to begin next year.
