2021 BMW S1000R – Variant-wise Prices & Competition

The brand has offered the second-gen S1000R in three variants – Standard, Pro, and Pro M Sport, which are priced at Rs 17.90 lakh, Rs 19.75 lakh, and Rs 22.50 lakh, respectively. It comes as a surprise for bike lovers as it is more affordable than the Kawasaki Z H2 (Rs 23-26 lakh) and Ducati Streetfighter V4 (Rs 19.99-23.19 lakh). However, the Triumph Speed Triple 1200 (Rs 16.95 lakh) still has an upper edge in terms of pricing.

2021 BMW S1000R – Powertrain

BMW S1000R top speed

The new Motorrad S1000R gets the same 999cc inline four-potter water-cooled power plant as the S1000RR, albeit in a detuned state to churn out a maximum power of 167PS at 11,000rpm and a peak torque of 115Nm at 9250rpm. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed transmission wherein the top three gears are taller, resulting in lower noise & fuel waste. It also gets an anti-hopping clutch and an optional engine drag torque control, which electronically restrict the rear wheel from slipping from abrupt downshifting or throttling. Further, it also features an optional Shift Assist Pro, which enables the riders to perform both upshifts & downshifts without using the clutch.

BMW claims that it can sprint from 0-100kmph in merely 3.2 seconds before hitting the top speed of 200kmph.

2021 BMW S1000R – Underpinning

Underpinned on the bridge-type aluminium laminate frame, 2021 S1000R uses the motor as the stressed member. The suspension setup of the bike comprises a 45mm upside-down telescopic fork (USD) at the front and a central shock absorber at the rear. Performing the braking duties on the new BMW S1000R roadster are a pair of 320mm twin-disc brake at the front and a 220mm single rear disc with dual-channel ABS.

It also gets an optional 20mm height adjustment, ranging from 810mm to 850mm. At 199kg, the brand claims the new S1000R is the lightest naked sports bike in the segment. And, opting for the M-Package will further reduce the weight by 5kg by using M forged wheels or M carbon wheels, the M lightweight battery and the M endurance chain.

2021 BMW S1000R – Styling & Features

As for styling, the upgraded S 1000 R gets revised bodyworks, a new single-piece LED headlight with DRL, and a new integrated LED tail lamp, somewhat similar to the bigger S1000RR. The standard features of the bike include a large 6.5-inch TFT screen with Bluetooth based smartphone connectivity for navigation, a 6-axis sensor box including ABS Pro & DTC, three riding modes (Road, Rain, and Dynamic), and an adjustable handlebar position.
