2020 Honda City To Be Launched On 15 July

After a long delay due to COVID-19 pandemic, Honda has finally decided to launch the new City Sedan on 15th July 2020. Pre-bookings of the most-awaited sedan was already started at the token amount of Rs. 5,000 for online mode, and Rs. 21,000 through the dealership.

2020 Honda City: What's New? 

The 5th generation Honda City will be more premium and bigger than ever. Company has already started its manufacturing. It is based on a new, lighter and more rigid platform than the previous one. It will host a completely new design both outside & inside. At some points, it borrows its styling cues from its elder sibling- Civic.

It will feature a new 9 LED arrays headlights with integrated LED daytime running lamps (DRLs) and LED turn indicators. The design of the car's bumper is sleeker & chunky now. It also gets a new Honda chrome grill that all the way covers the car's width at the front.   

From the side, it really looks longer than before. Company has stated that the length of the new city has been increased by 109mm. Also, it is 53mm wider. However, its height is decreased by 6mm. Thus, it feels more composed. It stands on new 16-inch dual-tone alloy wheels with 185/55 cross-section tyres. Overall, the side profile looks more premium & classy. 

At the rear, the Z-shaped 3D LED taillights is the new highlight, which gives the car a sporty feel. Company has also redesigned its bumper & boot lid.

Interior & Features

Like the exterior, the Interior has been also given a new make-over. It gets a new minimalistic designed dashboard which gives it a rich feel. As far features are concerned, it is more loaded than its predecessor. It receives a new 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with in-built navigation and connected car technology, Alexa AI compatibility, remote control features, lane-watch camera, semi-digital instrument cluster &  tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS). Apart from these, it carries forward the older features like cruise control, electrically adjustable and foldable ORVM, auto-dimming IRVM, cooled glovebox, push engine start/stop button, android auto & apple carplay connectivity, auto climate control with rear AC vent.

In terms of safety, it comes with 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking camera with guidelines, electronic stability control (ECS) & lane watch assist system. It is important to mention that the Thai-spec honda city has already received the 5-star adult safety rating in ASEAN NCAP crash test. To know about this in detail, click here. 

Engine

Like the current model, new Honda City is offered with the same 1.5-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engine. However, the power figure of the petrol engine is increased by 2PS. Now, it gives a max output of 121PS/145Nm. While the output of the diesel engine retains the same (100PS/200Nm). Both engines will come with 6-speed manual gearbox as standard. A CVT automatic transmission option is a add-on with a petrol engine.

Variants And Expected Pricing

2020 Honda City will come in three variants: V, VX and ZX. Their ex-showroom prices are expected to start from Rs. 10.5-11 lakhs. It will continue to rival the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Toyota Yaris, VW Vento, Hyundai Elantra & the Skoda Rapid.
