Skoda Octavia RS245 To Make A Comeback With A Hybrid Powertrain

IT’S CONFIRMED! Skoda is all set to bring back the Octavia RS245 in India, albeit in an all-new avatar. The performance-oriented sedan will be brought to our shores via the CBU route and could be offered in limited numbers. Expect it to command a hefty price tag over the regular model. For reference, the standard version of Skoda Octavia currently ranges between Rs 27.35 – 30.45 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Octavia RS series was up until now only available in petrol power configurations. However, a plug-in hybrid drivetrain will be offered for the first time ever in India with the Octy RS. Having said that, it will get a 150PS 1.4-litre TSI turbocharged gasoline mill, coupled with a 13kWh battery and 115PS electric motor, developing a combined power output of 245PS. With this, it can complete the century sprint in simply 7 seconds. What’s more interesting is that it can offer a pure electric drive range of around 60 kilometers.

Design-wise, the Skoda Octavia RS245 will look largely similar to the regular model, albiet with a few cosmetic tweaks for some sportier appeal, such as a blacked-out grille surround, resigned bumpers with aggressive air dams & sleeker fog lamp housing, slightly lower ground clearance, black splitter, dual exhausts and vRS badging at the front & the back. It will also get a stiffer suspension setup and a quicker steering rack for more spirited driving experience.

Inside, the dashboard design of the Octavia RS will be broadly similar to the regular model; however, it will feature an all-black theme, along with Alcantara leather upholstery and plenty of red inserts. It will also get an RS-specific virtual cockpit and infotainment user interface.

Once launched, it will go up against the BMW 3 Series and Audi A4.
