Renault Kiger Launched In India, Prices Start From Rs 5.45 lakh

Renault has finally launched its first-ever sub-4-meter SUV 'Kiger' in the most hotly contested segment of the country. Priced from Rs 5.45 lakh to Rs 9.55 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom India), it gets four variants and two petrol engine options. Bookings are underway for Rs 11,000 with deliveries set to begin next month.

It won't be easy for the French maker to fight out against the established players of the segment like Hyundai Venue, Maruti Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport, Kia Sonet, etc. However, to deal with this, Renault has triggered the price sensitivity quotient and made the SUV the most affordable entrant of the segment. Here's the variant-wise asking price: –

  • The AMT & CVT automatic variants carry a premium of Rs 45,000 and Rs 1 lakh, respectively, over their corresponding manual variants

Engine & Gearbox Options

Like the Nissan Magnite, the Kiger also gets two 1.0-liter, 3-cylinder petrol engines: a naturally aspirated (NA) and a turbocharged unit. The power figures are also identical to the Magnite: 72PS/96Nm for naturally aspirated and 100PS/upto 160Nm for turbo motor. What distinct between both the SUV is the AMT (automated manual transmission) option available with NA mill, whereas the Nissan Magnite's non-turbo unit only gets a 5-speed manual gearbox. Further, the turbo engine also gets three driving modes: Normal, Eco and Sport. Here are the engine specifications: –

Renault Kiger – Design & Features

The Kiger is based on Renault-Nissan’s CMF-A+ platform that also holds up the Renault Triber and Nissan Magnite. With this, it also shares a lot of design elements with both these utility vehicles. For starters, it gets Triber like the front-winged grille, flanked by the LED daytime running lamps (DRLs). The headlamp setup is tri-octa projector LED headlamps units, positioned on the lower side of the bumper. It will remind you of the Renault Kwid.

It's good that it's not a traditional boxy SUV albeit its sloping roofline gives it a crossover-like look. The styling is up-to-date with dual-tone roof rails & 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, flared wheel arches with side cladding, and distinctive C-shaped LED taillights.

With great styling, Renault has even contrived an outstanding balance of space and practicality. At 405-liters (879 liters with the second row folded), the boot space of Renault Kiger is claimed to be the best in the segment. Even with four six-footers on board, there's ample scope for you to feel comfortable.

Here's a look at its dimensions: –

Length

3,991 mm

Width

1,750 mm (without mirrors)

Height

1,600 mm (with roof bars)

Wheelbase

2,500 mm

Kerb Weight

1,012 kg

Boot Volume

Ground Clearance

On the features front, it packs several premium equipments to make your journey effortless & enjoyable. The highlight includes an 8-inch touchscreen floating infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity, 8-speaker Arkamys sound system, keyless entry with push-button start, LED headlamps, automatic climate control, great AC vents, height-adjustable driver's seat, a 7-inch digital colored instrument display, steering-mounted audio controls, air purifier (optional), wireless charging (optional), etc.

Safety is taken care of by 4 airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, rear-view camera, hill start assist, and vehicle stability control (VSC), etc. Compared to the other cars of the segment, it misses out on a sunroof, connected car tech, tire pressure monitoring system, front parking sensors, 360-degree camera, and cruise control.
