Kia Motors recently released a teaser image, confirming that it will launch a total of 7 dedicated battery electric vehicles (BEVs) from various segments by 2027. These seven EVs will be developed under Kia's plans to transition towards electric mobility named ‘Plan S’ which was revealed earlier this year.
According to Plan S, Kia's strategy is to have 11 EVs in its lineup in which seven will be dedicated EVs while others will be derivatives of its existing models. With this, Kia expects that its electric vehicles will cover for 25% of its total sales by 2029.
The first dedicated BEV will be unveiled in 2021
The Korean maker has declared that its first battery EV will make its global appearance in 2021. The brand has given it a 'CV' codenamed. This EV will be carrying a crossover styling and likely to offer up to 500km of drive range in a single charge with a rapid charging rate of below 30 minutes.
The teaser image also indicates that most of Kia's upcoming EVs will be of crossovers and SUVs segment of different sizes and most of them are likely to be based on the brand's latest Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) which claims to offer best-in-class cabin space.
Kia to build EV suitable infrastructure
Kia Motors will also invest in EV infrastructure across the markets. The brand is striving to set-up 2,400+ charging stations in Europian countries and 500 in North America. The carmaker is also planning to open 2,000+ EV service bays by 2030.
Kia might also offer subscription-based models as well as EV battery leasing and rental programs.
Will Kia launch EVs in India?
Kia Motors hasn't officially shared any information regarding this. Currently, the company's focus in India is on the utility segment.
At present, the EV market in India is in its initial stage, so we do not expect any Kia EV to arrive on our shores anytime soon. But in the coming years, the company can definitely take a step in this direction.
