It's time to begin the countdown as Hyundai is all set to launch the third-generation i20 premium hatchback in India. The brand has shared the first official teaser images of the India-spec new i20.
New Hyundai i20 – What do the teaser images reveal?
The Indian-spec new i20 looks exactly similar to the European version. Compared to the current model, the updated i20 has undergone significant changes both inside and outside. Like the new Elantra sedan, It also reflects Hyundai's latest Sensuous Sportiness design language.
Upfront, it features a large cascading grille, finished in glossy black theme, and flanked by sleek sweptback LED projector headlamps which also integrates the LED daytime running lamps (DRLs). The design of the front bumper is quite sharp and it emphasizes triangular housing for the LED fog lamps. On the other hand, the bonnet of the car features sharp ridges and bulges which adds to the sporty appeal.
Some of the other prominent changes in the new i20 include newly designed five-spoke dual-tone alloy wheels, black treatment on the tailgate, roof-integrated spoiler, and aggressively designed "Z' shaped LED tail lamps that are connected by a chrome strip running along the width of the boot lid.
Interestingly, Hyundai has also decided to remove the ‘Elite’ tag from its name, and it will now be designated as 'i20' only.
The interior of the new i20 features a minimalist design theme. Like the exterior, its dashboard layout is similar to the European spec-model which highlights Audi like faux air-con vents. The floating touchscreen infotainment system takes the central stage, which integrates into the instrument cluster housing, just like the Hyundai Aura. The screen size is likely to be around 10.25-inches, and it is expected to get features like wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, in-built navigation, and Hyundai’s BlueLink Connected car technologies.
The instrument cluster will comprise an all-digital unit for the speedometer as the digital readouts can be seen in the sketch. The steering wheel, on the other hand, will be a four-spoke piece, similar to the new-gen Creta.
In terms of features, the updated Korean hatchback is expected to get premium equipment like automatic climate control, dedicated rear AC vents, automatic headlamps, air purifier with virus protection and perfume dispenser, electric sunroof, cruise control, Bose premium sound system, wireless mobile charger, ambient lighting, auto-dimming IRVM, multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, parking sensors and a rearview camera, etc.
