Ford EcoSport's Titanium Variant Gets An Automatic Transmission Option

Ford EcoSport Automatic has now become more affordable as the American carmaker has launched the new Titanium AT variant at Rs 10.66 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Earlier, the automatic transmission was only available with the Titanium+ variant which costs Rs 11.56 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Hence, the new Titanium AT variants undercuts it by Rs 90,000.

Like the Titanium+ AT, the new Titanium AT variant gets the same 6-speed torque converter unit. Both the automatic variants are only available with a 1.5-liter, 3-cylinder petrol engine that churns out 122PS of max power and 149Nm of max torque. Ford claims a mileage of 14.7 kmpl with this powertrain.

This new automatic variant gets a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation and FordPass connected technology, auto climate control,  cruise control, electrically adjustable and foldable ORVM, smart key with engine start/stop button, a one-touch driver-side button for all power windows, fog lamps and LED DRL, etc. It also comes with a paddle shifter that allows the drivers to make the most out of its transmission.

In terms of safety, it gets dual front airbags, ABS with EBD,  electronic stability control (ESC), rear parking sensors, speed alert system, seat belt reminder, emergency brake assist, traction control, and hill assist. 

Diesel engine still lacks an automatic option

The Ford EcoSport is also available with a 1.5-liter diesel engine that produces 100PS of power and 215Nm of torque. it offers a claimed mileage of 21.7kmpl. However, this engine is only available with 5-speed manual transmission.

Rivals 

In sub-4m SUV space, the Ford EcoSport competes against Hyundai Venue, Maruti Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Honda WR-V, and Mahindra XUV300. Among these, all are available with a petrol-automatic powertrain option, except the XUV300 & WR-V. The Mahindra offering comes with an AMT transmission that to be with diesel motor only. 

Author's Take

With the introduction of the Titanium AT variant, Ford has tried to make the automatic transmission more accessible to the buyers. However, it is still the most expensive base automatic variant in the segment.
