5th-Gen Honda City Gets Google Assistant Support

Honda Cars India has updated the fifth-generation City sedan with an enhanced version of the Honda Connect, which now gets Google Assistant support along with the existing Alexa remote capability. With this, the Honda City has become the first car in its category to receive this new feature, which is an extension of the integrated Connected car technology. Besides, the brand has also added four new functionalities to the Honda Connect app for a total of 36 features.

Starting with the Google Assistant support, the 5th-gen Honda City now works with the 'Ok Google' voice command to offer 10 voice-enabled features that can be executed via Google Assistant-enabled devices like Google Nest Speakers, and Android phones, etc. Honda owners can also use them through Google’s text-based command functionality or iOS devices.

These features are: – 

  • Remote functions  It enables the users to remotely lock/unlock the doors of the car and operate the AC (only for CVT variants) via voice commands.

  • Car dashboard – It allows the user to access real-time car status of door lock/unlock, light on/off, odometer reading, headlight & tail lamps status, engine health status, fuel & tire status. 

  • Find my car.

  • Remote boot opening.

  • Tire deflation status.

  • Battery health status – Users can check if there is an issue with the battery.

  • Time fencing – A mobile feature where alerts are generated in case a car is accessed in safety duration. Customers can toggle it ON/OFF.

  • Locate my car – To check the location of the car.

  • Service features  Access service history, and check the validity of PUC, RSA, and insurance.

  • Fuel status. 

Note: – Since the new Honda City also comes with Alexa remote capability. So, users can also execute these features from any Alexa enabled devices.

As mentioned above, the Honda Connect platform also gets four new functionalities. These include Valet Alerts, Fuel Log Analysis, Cost of Maintenance Analysis, and Enhanced options for Service Products.

  • Fuel Log Analysis: – It provides a detailed fuel log analysis through graphical representation. It includes details like kilometers driven, cost per km, fuel consumed, and fuel cost, etc. It will help the owners to evaluate a driving economy of a trip.

  • Cost of Maintenance: – This feature shows trends of expenses in the categories of periodic maintenance, general repair, body, and paint repair. It will allow customers to keep a track record of service expenditure over the ownership period. 

  • Valet Alert: – This function will alert the user in case the vehicle is driven outside the fenced area set during valet parking. 

  • Enhanced options for Service Products: – Under this, customers will be able to book value-added services along with regular service bookings through the Honda Connect App.

Launched in July 2020, the 5th-gen Honda City comes in three variants: V, VX and ZX, ranging from Rs 10.99 lakh to Rs 14.74 lakh (ex-showroom). The sedan comes with two engine choices – a 1.5-litre petrol (121PS/145Nm) and a 1.5-litre diesel engine (100PS/200Nm), paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard and a CVT automatic option for the petrol motor. 

In the Indian markert, the Honda City takes on the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Toyota Yaris, Hyundai Verna, Vokswagen VentoSkoda Rapid, and . Soon both of these German offering will be replaced by new models.
