The 2023 Tata Harrier and Safari have finally been launched in India, with prices starting from Rs 15.49 lakh (ex-showroom). Both the upgraded SUVs have also secured 5-star safety ratings in the latest rounds of crash tests conducted by the Global NCAP.
Bookings for both the SUVs are already underway for a token amount of Rs 25,000.

Five-Star Safety Rating
At the launch event, Tata Motors revealed the crash test ratings for both the new Harrier and Safari. Both updated SUVs have secured 5-star safety ratings for both Adult Occupants Protection (AOP) and Child Occupants Protection (COP), with a stable bodyshell that was capable of withstanding further loadings.
It is worth noting that the crash test was conducted voluntarily.

New Design and Features
- With the recent facelift update, both the Tata Safari and Harrier have recieved tons of significant design changes, both outside and inside. Some notable transformations include a new radiator grille, updated bumpers, width-spanning LED DRLs with welcome function, vertically stacked projector headlamps, new alloys and a connected LED tailgate.
- Inside, both SUVs get a revamped dashboard layout adorned with a new touch-based climate control panel and ambient lighting strip covering the lowered curved profile of the dash. Click here for more details.
- Regarding features, both SUVs get a new 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch customizable digital driver’s display with navigation support, a new 4-spoke steering wheel with illuminated Tata logo, upgraded iRA 2.0 connected car tech, dual-zone climate control, 45W fast charger, knee airbag, and upgraded ADAS suite, which now includes dynamic cruise control, forward collision warning and blind spot monitoring. Powertrain
No mechanical changes have been made underneath the hood. Both SUVs retain the same Fiat-sourced 2-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine (170PS/350Nm) that can be paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. However, their fuel efficiency figures have been improved by 0.45 kmpl.
Competition
In the realm of the mid-size SUV segment, the Tata Harrier rivals the likes of Jeep Compass, MG Hector and 5-seater variants of the Mahindra XUV500. On the other hand, the Safari locks horns with the Hyundai Alcazar, MG Hector Plus and 7-seater variants of Mahindra XUV700.
