Japanese automaker Toyota has finally revealed the new-generation iteration of the Land Cruiser SUV (300 Series) through official images. Compared to the previous 200 Series Land Cruiser, the latest LC300 gets new looks & features, sits on an all-new GA-F platform, and receives two twin-turbo V-6 engine options. Toyota claims that the new Land Cruiser inherits and evolves the Land Cruiser's essence of "reliability, durability, and off-road performance".
All-New 2022 Toyota Land Cruiser 300 – What's New?
Underpinnings and Powertrain
Built on the new GA-F platform (derived from the Toyota New Global Architecture), the brand has managed to shade out 200kg, achieved a lower center of gravity, improved frame rigidity & suspension structure. Besides, it also enabled Toyota engineers to adopt new powertrains and helped in improving weight distribution. That said, the 2022 Land Cruiser 300 gets two new V6 twin-turbocharged engines (both petrol and diesel) instead of the naturally aspirated V8 and V6 petrol engines. Here's take a look at their specifications: –
Engine | 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol | 3.3-litre twin-turbo V6 diesel |
Max Power | 415PS | 309PS |
Peak Torque | 650Nm | 700Nm |
Transmission | 10-speed AT | 10-speed AT |
Toyota claims that both these engines will offer better driveability and efficiency than a conventional V8, and reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 10%. The brand has further stated that a naturally aspirated petrol engine and a 6-speed AT will continue to be offered in some markets.
Toyota Land Cruiser 300 – Off-road capabilities
For off-roading performance, Toyota has said to made improvements in the basic suspension performance for wheel articulation. The brand has also introduced a new Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS) that adjusts the connection of the anti-roll bars. Besides, it also gets Multi-Terrain Monitor and Multi-Terrain Select system. While the Multi-Terrain Monitor is a camera-based terrain monitoring system that immediately displays obstacles as viewed from the driver's viewpoint, the Multi-Terrain Select system, on the other hand, automatically picks the most suitable driving mode by auto-evaluating road conditions.
Prioritizing on off-road performance, the vehicle size, including the total length, total width, and wheelbase, as well as both the departure & approach angles, have been kept the same as the previous model (excluding some grades).
Toyota Land Cruiser 300 – Design & Safety Features
Styling-wise, the new Land Cruiser 300-series sports a more muscular & modern-looking design while retaining its older boxy silhouette. It gets a bigger rectangular chrome grille upfront with sleeker LED headlights and a bold bumper design. At the back, it features a new pair of taillights and a flat tailgate.
Inside, the SUV gets a large free-standing infotainment system and a new dashboard layout, decked in a black-&-beige dual-tone theme.
Improving the safety quotient, the new Land Cruiser will now get the latest Toyota Safety Sense active safety package with an advanced pre-collision system and a new Parking Support Brake. The pre-collision system helps in avoiding a collision or reducing its impact by detecting pedestrians and other vehicles. It is also capable of assisting with steering and lane-keeping. The Parking Support Brake helps prevent accidents by identifying obstacles in front and back of the vehicle in a parking lot.
Toyota Land Cruiser 300 GR Edition
The new Land Cruiser will also get a sportier GR (Gazoo Racing) variant. While the brand hasn't revealed its specifications, it did publish a few images of the SUV, which reveals that it will get some cosmetic differences from the standard model. These mainly include a blacked-out honeycomb grille with Toyota lettering at the center, a metal skid plate, different wheels & tires, and more black plastic cladding.
