2021 Maruti Suzuki Celerio Vs Rivals – Mileage Comparison

Maruti Suzuki has finally launched the extremely-awaited second-gen Celerio today, with prices ranging from Rs 4.99 lakh to Rs 6.94 lakh (ex-showroom). The brand has offered the upgraded compact hatchback with a new 1.0-litre DualJet Dual-VVT (Variable Valve Timing) petrol engine that features segment-first Idle Start-Stop function and cooled EGR. With all these new technologies, Maruti Suzuki claims that the new Celerio is the most fuel-efficient petrol car in India, offering a mileage of up to 26.68kmpl.

Here are the engine specifications of the new Celerio and claimed efficiency figures for each variant: –

Engine

1.0-litre DualJet Dual-VVT K10C petrol

No of Cylinders 3
No of Valves 12
Max Power 67 PS at 6,000 rpm
Peak Torque 89 Nm at 3,500 rpm

Transmission Options

5-speed manual or AGS/AMT (Automated Manual ansmission)

Claimed Mileage

26.68 kmpl (Vxi AGS)

26.00 kmpl (Zxi AGS, Zxi+ AGS)

25.23 kmpl (Lxi, Vxi, Zxi Manual)

24.97 kmpl (Zxi+ Manual)

It is worth noting that automatic variants of the new Celerio are more fuel-efficient than their corresponding manual counterparts. However, the difference is insignificant but still makes the pricier AGS trims more appealing. Also, it is important to note that the weight of a car plays a vital role in fuel efficiency. Now, let’s see how it matches up to that of its rivals: –

Maximum Claimed Mileage

26.68 kmpl

20.3kmpl

23.84kmpl

19.59 kmpl

The all-new Celerior claims to return the best fuel efficiency among all. In fact, it is the only hatchback that crosses the 26kmpl mark. The Tata Tiago is the second most fuel-efficient car here. But it still lacks 2.84kmpl than the Maruti offering, which can create a big difference, especially considering the skyrocketing fuel prices.
