Yamaha’s MBSI Subsidiary Enters Into EV Leasing Market

Earlier in March 2022, Yamaha Motor Company entered the EV leasing market through its subsidy called Moto Business Service India (MBSI) with an aim to extend its mobility service businesses, and now it has made its first investment in Gurugram-based Zypp Electric (a Tech-Enabled EV-as-a-Service platform) to procure 250 Hero Electric two-wheelers, including Hero Electric NYX in New Delhi.

These EVs will be leased out to various E-commerce brands in the logistics, groceries, food, and pharma sectors to help achieve sustainable and eco-friendly deliveries. This partnership is in line with section 4.1.9 of the Delhi Electric Vehicles Policy Act, 2020, which directs logistic businesses to go 100% electric by 2025.

Commenting on this occasion, Mr. Shoji Shiraishi, Managing Director, MBSI says, “We are extremely excited to officially launch MBSI in New Delhi, by kick-starting our operations with Zypp Electric. The Indian electric vehicle mobility market is growing in line with the overall global trend and will see rapid traction and growth for shared two-wheelers and four-wheelers in the EV segment. We will onboard EV vehicles across multiple cities and generate employment avenues for the youth of India. We need to create an evolving ecosystem that can address all challenges and enable millions of businesses to adopt sustainable modes of transport. We plan to work with more environment-friendly mobility companies in the future and to transform the overall shared mobility space in India by bringing our financial and strategic experience from our stakeholders.“”

Currently, Zyppy is only present in Delhi-NCR and has around 5,000 electric scooters in its fleet. The brand aims to expand its footprint to Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Pune this year and desires to have 1.50 lakh EVs in its fleet by 2024. This will also generate employment opportunities. Currently, Zyppy is adding around 1000-1500 EVs every month.

Leading e-commerce companies like Amazon, Flipkart, Myntra, Zomato, Licious, Swiggy, Zepto, Blinkit, PharmEasy, Jio Mart, Delhivery, Spencers, etc., have already partnered with Zyppy Electric to ensure last sustainable mile delivery in Delhi-NCR region.
