Yamaha XSR125 – The Entry-Level Neo-Retro Motorcycle Revealed Globally

Japanese bike maker Yamaha Motors has unveiled the all-new XSR125 entry-level neo-retro motorcycle for the European market. The motorcycle meets the upper limit of the European A1 licensing laws; therefore, it will be available for learners as well. It is expected to be launched in June 2021 in Europe.

Powered by a liquid-cooled 124cc single-cylinder Euro 5-compliant VVA-equipped petrol engine, it churns out 14.96PS of maximum power at 10,000rpm and 11.5Nm of peak torque at 8,000rpm. Yamaha has paired this engine with a 6-speed gearbox. The same motor also powers the Yamaha R125 and MT-125.

The visual appearance of the Yamaha XSR125 is quite energetic and appealing. Interestingly, it shares its design cues with its elder sibling, XSR155. That said, it also gets a retro-styled circular LED headlamp & taillamp, tear-drop-shaped fuel tank, triangular side plates, long flat seat with ribbed covers, and blacked-out mechanical parts that highlight the refreshing retro styling. It also features a round-shaped all-negative-LCD fully-digital instrument cluster.

The bike will be offered in three shades: Redline, Impact Yellow, and Tech Black.

As for underpinnings, the XSR125 rides on Yamaha’s tried & tested signature Deltabox (diamond) twin-spar frame, which is known for its lightweight yet strong design and provides precise handling characteristics. The bike rolls on 17-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels that come wrapped in 110/70 (front) & 140/70 (rear) section block pattern tires that are claimed to provide plenty of traction. Suspension duties are taken care of by a 37mm USD front fork and a monoshock at the rear. There are also hydraulic disc brakes at both ends with dual-channel ABS offered as standard.

Other specifications of the Yamaha XSR125 are as follows: –

Length 1960mm
Height 1065mm
Width 800mm
Wheelbase  1330mm
Ground clearance  160mm (minimum)
Seat height 815mm
Weight 140kg (with full oil and fuel tank)
Fuel tank capacity 11-litres
Oil tank capacity 1.05-litres
Suspension travel 130mm (front), 110mm (rear)

Will Yamaha launch the XSR125 in India? Well, the brand hasn't shared any details regarding its India launch. But we don't expect it to hit our shore anytime soon. Currently, the brand is gearing up to launch the rugged version of its most popular FZ naked streetfighter in India. It is likely to be known as FZ-X
