Volkswagen Virtus – What do the teaser images reveal?

  • Revealed by the teasers, the Volkswagen Virtus will get a minimalistic design with notable highlights including a chunkier bumper and a slimmer grille with generous use of chrome.
  • The front grille seamlessly merges into the LED headlamps that also get integrated LED daytime running lamps.
  • Keen eyes could also notice GT badging on the front grille and a boot lip spoiler along with blacked-out finishing on the roof, ORVMs, and trunk. We believe the sportier GT trim could also sport red highlights inside and outside.

What else we know so far?

  • Well, nothing much except for the fact that it will share its underpinnings and mechanicals with the Volkswagen Taigun SUV. That said, it will be the second car from the house of Volkswagen that will be based on the highly localized MQB-A0-IN platform.
  • The interior design of the VW Virtus could mimic the 6th-gen Polo facelift (sold overseas). However, its features list will be similar to the upcoming Skoda Slavia, which gets a 10-inch infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, connected car tech, a digital driver’s display, touch-based climate control panel, ventilated front seats, and a single-pane sunroof. It will also get VW’s ID cars-inspired steering wheel.
  • The safety kit should consist of up to six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, hill hold assist, and rear parking sensors with a camera.
  • The upcoming sedan will be powered by the same 115PS 1.0-litre and 150PS 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engines like the VW Taigun, Skoda Slavia, and Kushaq. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual as standard, an optional 6-speed torque converter automatic for the 1.0-litre unit, and a 7-speed DSG for the 1.5-litre mill.
  • Volkswagen is likely to launch the Virtus by May 2022 with prices expected to range between Rs 10-17 lakh (ex-showroom).
  • Once launched, it will go up against the Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Hyundai Verna, Skoda Slavia, and the upcoming Toyota Belta.
