Volvo XC40 Recharge Launched In India At Rs 55.9 Lakh

Swedish automaker Volvo has finally kick-started its electrified innings in India with the launch of the XC40 Recharge electric SUV. Based on the XC40 compact SUV, Volvo’s first-ever EV is available in a sole fully loaded variant priced at Rs 55.90 lakh (ex-showroom), making it Rs 11.90 lakh more expensive than its petrol counterpart. Its bookings will commence from July 27 for an initial amount of Rs 50,000.

Volvo XC40 Recharge – Exterior

Similar to its petrol counterpart, the Volvo XC40 Recharge also underpins the CMA (Compact Modular Architecture) platform. However, it gets some styling differences over its ICE model such as an EV-specific closed-off grille, distinctive 19-inch machined alloy wheels, a slightly tweaked bumper at the rear with no exhausts, and of course Recharge badges.

Dimension-wise, it is 15mm longer than its ICE counterpart. But due to the placement of its battery pack its ground clearance is slightly lower at 175mm.

Color options

The electric SUV can be specced in five different colour schemes: Crystal White, Denim Blue, Black Stone, Fusion Red, and Glacier Silver.

Volvo XC40 Recharge – Interior and Features

Inside, the things remain largely similar to its ICE model except for a few differentiating factors like a revised 12.3-inch digital driver’s display with model-specific layout, and a new Google Android OS 9-inch infotainment system with built-in Google apps and services like Google Maps, Google Assistant, and Google Play Store. It also gets two upholstery options – standard leather and Nappa leather – for an all-black cabin layout.

The other notable features of the all-electric Volvo XC40 include dual-zone automatic climate control with rear vents, powered front seats with driver’s side memory function, powered tailgate, wireless smartphone charging pad, a 13-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, a 360-degree camera, an air purifier, tyre pressure monitor, panoramic sunroof, multiple airbags, lane keep assist, ISOFIX child seat anchorages, run-off road mitigation with road edge detection, cross-traffic alert, blind-spot detection with steer assist, and adaptive cruise control, etc.

Volvo XC40 Recharge – Battery Pack, Range and Charging Time

Powering the electrified Volvo XC40 is a P8 twin-motor electric drivetrain comprising two electric motors that churn out a maximum output of 408PS/660Nm and drive all four wheels. The drivetrain jointly with a 78kWh battery pack (stuffed into the floor of the car) delivers a WLTP-claimed range of 418km. It has a top speed of 180 kmph and can complete the 0-100kmph century sprint in merely 4.9 seconds.

Talking about the charging capabilities, the EV supports up to 150kW of DC fast charging and takes almost 33 minutes to reach an 80 percent state-of-charge. On the other hand, an 11kW AC charger can do a 0-100 percent charge in approximately 8-10 hours.

Warranty

Volvo is providing 3 years of warranty on the XC40 Recharge and an 8-year warranty on the batteries.

Competitors

The Volvo XC40 Recharge doesn’t have any direct rival in the Indian market. It can be seen as an affordable alternative to the likes of the Audi e-Tron (Rs 1.00 – 1.18 Cr), BMW iX (Rs 1.15 Cr), Mercedes-Benz EQC (Rs 99.50 lakh), and the Jaguar I-Pace (Rs 1.08 – 1.12 Cr).
