Volkswagen Teased New Polo Ahead Of Its Global Unveil On April 22

German carmaker Volkswagen has officially released the first teaser image of the new Polo facelift. The premium hatchback will be fully unwrapped on April 22 via a virtual event.

The teaser reveals the new purple color paint scheme and front quarter panel of its fascia. It gets sleek bi-LED headlamps accompanied by an illuminated LED strip that runs through the grille of the car. It amplifies as an integrated LED daytime running lamp (DRLs) inside the headlamp cluster. This complete setup looks identical to the 2021 VW Golf.

While more details regarding the updated VW Polo are yet to be revealed, we believe the mid-cycle update is expected to feature revised bumpers, new alloy wheels, and tweaked taillamps too as part of the cosmetic changes.

There is no information on the interior of the facelifted VW Polo but it is likely to get a slightly revised interior, a large infotainment system with connected car technology, and a few other features addition.

Under the hood, the 2021 VW Polo facelift is likely to borrow its powertrain with the 2021 SEAT Ibiza, which includes a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder TSI petrol and a 1.5-litre TSI petrol. While the 1.5-litre unit produces 150PS and 250Nm in Ibiza, the 1.0-litre unit comes with two different engine tuning – 96PS/175NM and 110PS/200Nm. Besides, a thrifty three-pot 1.0-litre TGI running on compressed natural gas (CNG) could also be on the cards.

The company is also reportedly working on the next-generation Polo, which is likely to be launched by the end of the next year or sometime in 2023. For the Indian market, it will be based on the heavily localised MQB-A0 IN platform. However, before that, the brand will launch an all-new Taigun and Tiguan facelift in our market.
