Select Volkswagen dealerships across the country have started taking bookings for the upcoming Taigun SUV at their own level, ahead of its launch in mid-2021. As per the reports, the booking amount is set as low as Rs 10,000. However, this amount is likely to vary across dealers and states.
For the people not in know, the Taigun is Volkswagen’s upcoming compact SUV that will lock horns with established rivals such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Renault Duster, Maruti S-Cross, and the Nissan Kicks. It will be based on the MQB AO IN platform, which the brand has heavily localised for the Indian market. The same platform will also underpin its upcoming sibling competitor, the Skoda Kushaq.
The Taigun will be offered with two turbocharged petrol engine options – a 1.0-liter TSI and a 1.5-liter TSI EVO. The bigger displacement unit will also get an idle start/stop and Active Cylinder Technology (ACT) for enhanced fuel efficiency. The ACT is a cylinder deactivation technology that shuts two of four cylinders of the engine in low load condition, thus improves engine efficiency, decreases fuel consumption & associated emissions. Here's a look at their specifications: –
1.5-litre TSI EVO
6-speed manual / 6-speed automatic
6-speed manual / 7-speed DSG automatic
No diesel engine will be on offer with the Taigun.
As for features, this utility vehicle from Volkswagen will be loaded up to the brim. The highlights include a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, connected car technology, Apple carplay & Android Auto support, auto AC with touch-based control panel, ventilated seats, a digital instrumentation cluster, electric sunroof, a wireless phone charger, keyless entry with push-button start, cruise control, etc. Safety will be covered by six airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX anchorages for child seats, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), traction control, parking sensors with a rear-view camera.
Taigun's prices are likely to start from around Rs 9.5 lakh (ex-showroom).
