TVS Apache RTR 160 4V Becomes More Powerful

TVS Motor Company has given a remarkably important update to the Apache RTR 160 4V for 2021. The 160cc sports naked has become more powerful and torquier, and that too without raising the prices.

The 2021 TVS Apache RTR 160V is powered by the same 159.7cc, single-cylinder, 4-valve oil-cooled engine as before. But this SI motor is now capable of producing 17.63PS of power at 9,250rpm and a peak torque 14.73Nm at 7,250rpm. That’s 1.6PS and 0.61Nm more than the outgoing model. For reference, earlier it used to produce 16.02PS at 8250rpm and 14.12Nm at 7250rpm.

With this update, the Apache 160 4V has become the most powerful bike in its segment, surpassing the Bajaj Pulsar NS160 by 0.43PS and 0.13Nm. Besides this, the TVS has also managed to scrap 2kg and bring the curb weight down to 147kg for the disc brake variant and 145kg for the drum brake variant. Further, it also gets a new dual-tone seat with a carbon-fiber pattern. However, it looks quite the same as before.

The rest of the mechanicals and features of the bike remains identical to the previous model. It continues to be suspended on a telescopic fork at the front and a Showa-tuned preload-adjustable monoshock at the rear. The braking setup is also unchanged, comprising a 270mm front petal disc with single-channel Super-Moto ABS and a 130mm drum/200mm petal disc at the rear.

Commenting on the occasion, Mr. Meghashyam Dighole, Head of Marketing, Premium Motorcycles, TVS Motor Company, said-

Backed by 38 years of racing pedigree, the new 2021 TVS Apache RTR 160 4V offers best-in-class performance with enhanced power to weight ratio and increased torque, offering our customers better-riding experiences along with advanced technologies. TVS Apache has always been committed to scaling higher benchmarks for customer satisfaction. We are confident that these enhancements will further strengthen the success story of our TVS Apache RTR 160 4V motorcycle.

Author's Take

The TVS Apache RTR 160 4V is positioned against the likes of Bajaj Pulsar NS160 (Rs 1.10 lakh), Hero Xtreme 160R (Rs 1.03 – 1.06 lakh), Yamaha FZ-S FI (Rs 1.04 – 1.10 lakh), and Suzuki Gixxer (Rs 1.16 lakh). Though the RTR 160 is the most feature-packed motorcycle in its segment, the Pulsar and Xtreme 160 gives it a really tough fight. But now with the added performance, the Apache 160 4V has become a more stirring proposition, especially knowing the fact that TVS hasn't increased its prices.
