Ford EcoSport SE Launched At Rs 10.49 Lakh

After numerous spy shots and teaser images, Ford India has finally launched the EcoSport SE variant in the Indian market. It is priced at Rs 10.49 lakh for the petrol model and Rs 10.99 lakh for the diesel. Both are ex-showroom prices.

New Ford EcoSport

Ford EcoSport SE variant – What's New?

Compared to the other variants, the EcoSport SE gets a distinctive rear styling. In fact, it shares its design cues with its American & European-spec models. For starters, the SE trim misses out on the tailgate-mounted spare wheel and comes with a puncture repair kit as standard instead of a spare wheel.

Though the tailgate is still a side-hinged unit, it features a number plate at the centre with a thick chrome garnishing just above it. Further, it also gets a silver skid plate on the rear bumper that gives the SUV a sportier appeal.

Ford EcoSport SE – Interior & Features

On the inside, it gets a black-and-beige color interior theme with chrome finishing, instead of an all-black interior of EcoSport S with Satin Orange highlights. The features list is largely similar to the S trim except for the puddle lamps, leatherette upholstery, sporty alloy pedals, black finishing, a cargo area management system, and ISOFIX child seat anchorages. To be specifics, the new SE trim comes equipped with 16-inch alloy wheels, automatic HID headlamps, LED daytime running lamps, electric sunroof, automatic AC, auto-dimming IRVM, rain-sensing wipers, cruise control, an 8-inch SYNC 3.0 touchscreen infotainment system with Apple Carplay & Android Auto smartphone connectivity, FordPass connected tech, FordMy key, 6-speakers, rear washer & wiper and many more.

Safety kit, on the other hand, comprises 6-airbags, ABS with EBD, rear defogger, emergency brake assist, electronic stability control (ESC), traction control, hill launch assist, speed sensing auto door lock, rear parking sensors with camera, etc.

Powertrain

Like the other trims, the new Ford EcoSport SE is also available with two engine options – 1.5-liter, 3-cylinder petrol (122PS/149Nm), and a 1.5-liter, 4-cylinder diesel (100PS/215Nm). Both the motors are paired to a 5-speed manual transmission. Ford hasn't offered the SE trim with automatic gearbox choice.

Author's Take

By slightly changing the tailgate design, Ford has attempted to enhance the aging SUV’s charm in a highly competing subcompact SUV segment. Though the SE trim gives the SUV a slightly refreshed look, still this minor update is not sufficient enough to furnish it as a present-day vehicle. In our opinion, it seriously needs a generation upgrade.
