Toyota Urban Cruiser Teased; Launch Expected Soon

Toyota has teased its first-ever electric vehicle for the Indian market, called the “Urban Cruiser”, which is essentially the rebadged version of the eVitara. It is set to be revealed on January 20.

Toyota Urban Cruiser EV – What To Expect?

Design

First revealed at the 2025 Auto Expo, the Urban Cruiser EV will share its platform, proportions, silhouette, and dimensions with the Maruti Suzuki eVitara. However, it will boast a completely different design from its Maruti sibling, especially on the exterior. Having said that, it will boast a similar design language as other Toyota models sold in global markets, featuring a ‘Hammerhead’ front fascia, sleeker headlamps with integrated LED DRLs, and a clean-looking bumper with blacked-out air dam and vertical cuts on either side.

From the sides, the Urban Cruiser will look similar to eVitara, featuring a fender-mounted charging port with a BEV badge, thick wheel arch cladding with muscular haunches, and 19-inch alloy wheels, giving it a butchy yet rugged appearance.

Toyota Urban Cruiser BEV India Launch Date

The rear too will remain identical to the eVitara, with connected LED tail lamps and a bumper draped heavily in black cladding.

The interior layout will also be the same as its Suzuki sibling; however, it is expected to be draped in an all-black theme for a more stealthy appearance.

Powertrain

Underneath the hood, the Urban Cruiser EV could be offered with two battery options: 49 kWh and 61 kWh, with a claimed range of up to 543 kilometres. Both are likely to be powered by the front-axle-mounted PMS motor, rated differently for both battery packs.

Expected Price and Rivals

Toyota is expected to price the Urban Cruiser EV between Rs 16-20 lakh (ex-showroom), positioning it against the Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Curvv EV, Mahindra BE 6 and Vinfast VF6.
